| Editorial Reviews:
Editorial Review You can tell from Toby's serious expression that he means to get the job done--well. He is a small freight engine but also pulls local commuter cars. He is dark brown, with a gray bumper and skirt. Based on the award-winning television series Shining Time Station by the Reverend W. Awdry, the Thomas the Tank train system fulfills all of a child's choo-choo dreams. Each vehicle has a different name, character, and face. It is wooden and 2 inches high with black plastic wheels. The magnetic bumpers at both ends of each vehicle make linkup easy. Children will become friends with each one, developing not only imaginative play but social skills and new motor and cognitive skill as they mature. --Sandy Hirsch
Product Description Toby the Tram Engine is an engine who is always happy to work, although sometimes he can be a bit temperamental.Based on theThomas the Tank Engine&FriendsTV show, The Thomas Wooden Railway System sparks children's creativity while teaching problem solving, developing fine motor skills, and promoting social interaction. Exceptionally well made, each piece of the Thomas Wooden Railway System is handmade from New England Hard Maple and other renewable hardwoods and elaborately detailed.

Excellent and long-lasting March 3, 2001 Emilia Palaveeva (Seattle, WA United States) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
When my son, a Thomas fan since age 1.5, asks for a toy it is always an engine from the Thomas series. Toby is one of his favorite. Toby is a tram engine, one of the most good natured engines in the Thomas stories. While the toy does not have any interactive and fancy features, it gives my son the opportunity to relive his favorite Thomas stories. For that reason, Toby and any of the other engines make excellent gifts to any 2+ year old.
Beautiful Tram Engine August 8, 2000 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Toby is a tram engine. There are a lot stories about him, like Toby sadly retired until one day Sir Tophem Hatt found that he is a very useful engine; Toby helped Mavis the little diesel out of trouble; Toby and Percy together made a kind joke at Thomas about the ghost train; etc. There is also a beautiful song about him. My three little children like him because he is very special. They often fight for the ownership. I wonder if I should buy two more of this. I do have five Thomas engines. But they still fight for the different facial expression. good toys!
Great quality March 9, 2006 J. Buckner 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Very well made and durable, as has been the case with all the wooden Thomas characters we've bought. We have a 2 year old boy who can be quite rough on them and they hold up well.
Love it! March 3, 2006 Oceans 11 (OK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What is not to love about Toby?!!? Thomas products are always top quality to me. My son absolutely loves Toby.
Tempermental Toby June 7, 2006 Janet Boyer (Pennsylvania) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
My son has had Toby for several years, and it still looks as good as the day we got it! (Despite hours and hours of playing and jostling against other trains in a drawer, mind you!)
Toby looks different from all the other engines on the Island of Sodor because he is a boxy tram engine. Although Toby is always happy to work, he can sometimes be very tempermental!
My son enjoys playing with Toby, and this train is a unique part of the Thomas and Friends collection.
